Motion Photo: Having Fun

I shot two boys outside the classroom having fun for my motion photo. You can see them in the air bumping their chests together. A building lays in the background as well as a tree further back.

The image is in focus and it is purposefully blurred in order to create an image of motion through the air.

This photo is a simple figurative image with no depth behind it. This image was not composed with the intentions of organization and it is a sour low-key image with no interesting artistic elements. The photo was shot in a vertical format which made it easier for me to capture the two boys and gives a sense of strength to the photo.

This photo is really an "impulsive photo" because it was taken on impulse. Therefore, I did not have any plans for what I wanted to communicate to viewers and failed at focusing on the content of the work. Overall, I have to conclude that the photo did not come out as successful artwork, but as a simple snapshot that captures motion. I can truly say that I have done better work.

There is a boy and girl separated by the space in the photo.The boy is in the foreground (close-up) and the girl is in the background (far away).The boy is looking back at the girl. The girl looks sad as she holds her head down and the sunlight shines behind her where the trees lay in the background.The image is in focus purposefully to show that it is about him seeing her, seeing how she feels! The leading lines are formed by the boy's body direction.

Waiting

The photograph's foreground is the girl leaning against the wall and you also see a closed door in the background. This picture gives out a figurative message because the objects were intended to represent an idea.

The girl is in focus and the door manages to be in the picture also which was done intentionally. I really love the contrast of black and white tones and the way the door captures the attention of the viewer as well as the dark tones that reflect off the girl.

I chose to create a vertical format for this picture to give it a sense of strength as she stands up against the wall. The image is in perfect focus and the black and white image is neither high-key or low-key. The fence is the only object in the photograph with shapes and patterns, but it doesn't pull away from the idea of the photograph.

Before I shot this photograph, I didn't plan on what I wanted this picture to communicate to viewers, but after developing the picture I was able make a story that would fit the image.
The message I was unintentionally trying to communicate is that the girl is waiting for the door of opportunity to open so she could have her chance to succeed.

According to my intentions, I do not think the photograph was successful because I should have planned a visual idea. Instead of trying to create a story by snapping shots at random places that seemed cool. In the end, the photograph I created became a nice picture with an inarticulate message.

September Fall

The object that appears in this photograph is a smiling girl as she throws leaves up into the air. The objects that appear in the background are the tree and the bright sky. This work is figurative because it represents a child appreciating the fall because when the leaves start falling off the tree she knows that a new school year is arriving. If you look at the photograph closely you can see that there are twelve leaves in the air which represents twelve years to enjoy childhood. The idea of twelve leaves was not intentionally planned before the shot, but works perfectly with the idea I had in mind.

This is a middle-key image because the image's dark and light objects are equally balanced and the sky compliments the dark leaves, the girl, and the tree. The photo was shot in a horizontal format which lends a sense of peace to the photograph. The image is not shot in focus, but captures the girl's reaction to the falling leaves. The girl's fingers on her left hand are cropped (cut off) accidently because I was on the ground beneath the girl and was not very stable with the camera.

I was trying communicate the joy a child experiences in the fall and how they appreciate the season because it reminds them that school is coming or present. The vision I had in mind before taking the shot was to capture the moment she had playing with the leaves and to freeze her actions of playing with the leaves. Therefore, I think my photograph came out successful because it created the moment of a child embracing fall.
